The newest TF2 update is called The Hatless Update. There’s no new hats in it! That is if you don’t count the update before it which was exclusively hats. Ah, just joking, at least Valve noticed they were focusing too much on the wrong things.
Meanwhile there’s rumors Portal 2 may be coming out very early – like 7 hours from the time of this post early.

Huge source engine update out, and a lot of TF2 changes up along with it. Hold your horses, there’s barely any gameplay changes. A lot of map changes though, the most noticeable of them being the famous Thundermountain spawn vulnerability being fixed and Hightower’s ramp now easier to push.
However there also was an some update sometime in the past that increased the maximum resolution for sprays from 256×256 to 512×512. I don’t recall it ever being jotted down in any patch note. The maximum permitted size as also been increased, allowing for more frames in an animated spray. It’s weird that Valve actually cares about sprays, it’s something you almost never see in any other game and it’s not exactly a feature you’d use to get copies sold, but I sure as hell am glad there’s someone on the dev team that cares about them!
The TF2 part of the Steam forum now has a Trading board. Come on, Gabe, stop teasing and give us that polycount update already.

This wrench business is getting out of hand. I just want them to get on with it so I can see what the next unlock is. The pistol replacement is nice, I never liked the idea of having something to control your sentry but raising a shield around it and doubling it’s fire rate made it sound interesting.
I wonder if the PDQ is the next unlock? Seems a bit too obvious.
EDIT: Oh dear, someone fucked up. The comments are even…better? I’m not even sure, everything about this is horrible.
Check the comments below for a chatlog on what’s happening. My favorite part is where DF reveals that drop times were just predetermined all along. Cool random system you’ve got there, Valve.

100 people? Bah.
Just to clarify, that’s just a log page. You don’t get anything by clicking there. The wrench drops are also random, and when there’s less than 100 wrenches left you shouldn’t expect to get anything anyway.

For some reason an update for TF2 is out with a ton of buffs and nerfs for most classes. Long story short, pyro got nerfed, heavy got buffed, bonk got changed, targe’s direct hit got buffed, huntsman got buffed, and there’s a new item out for the scout called the crit-a-cola.
Here’s what they didn’t tell you. This is why I said they nerfed the pyro. While they buffed the airblast and nerfed the flamer, these changes apply to the backburner and flaregun too for some reason. Oh well.
Edit: Yeah, I know, engies are being dicks playing Sim City in 2fort and stuff like that right now.

A TF2 update just rolled out, following a string of unknown items drops reported yesterday. While the patch notes were relatively uninteresting, the community hats and weapons included got found pretty much right away. The three new weapons are:
- The Dalokohs bar – Heavy lunchbox, adds +50% max hp for 30 seconds.
- The Pain Train – Demo/Soldier melee, adds +1 capture speed while increasing damage received from bullets by 10%
- The Homewrecker – Pyro melee, 200% damage against buildings, -25% damage against players.
There’s also several new hats.

So you wake up one day and you find out your Steam friends list has been deleted. Something must’ve happened in the Valve offices, probably someone falling onto a server. I’m not going to make any more fat jokes on this subject for fear of HL2:Ep3 being delayed even more, so let’s talk about that new TF2 update.
You know that spot in 2fort on the Blu battlements where there’s a tiny tiny slit you can see through under the corrugated iron? Yeah, it’s gone. Doublecross got clipbrushed even more now so you can scratch your head and wonder why the crap you can’t rocketjump to that perfectly accessible spot. And flares can be reflected by the pyro yet again. Oh, who am I kidding, the only interesting thing going on on Steam right now is everyone complaining about their friends list!
Not harboring any ill will towards anyone, but I kind of enjoyed all the drama created by the friends fuck-up. Meanwhile, I’ll be playing Bad Company 2. If you’re played Battlefield 2/2142, I strongly suggest checking it out. You won’t regret it if you’ve had fun with those two games.
Edit: Well, logged on this morning, everything’s back to normal on Steam. Also, a beta.

Well, the WAR continues into another two days. The current tally has soldiers leading by 218,999 kills. Exciting!
But not as exciting as the revelation of the long awaited CRAFTING SYSTEM! Finally, your eight Razorbacks will be useful for SOMETHING.
The system seems pretty simple: certain combinations of items will craft certain other items. Apparently, there will be ‘blueprints’ everyone will get right away (I’m guessing for the normal unlocks as opposed to hats) describing what combinations to use for some items. Others, however, will have to be worked out on your own (well, really, you plus the entire TF2 community).
Also, a propaganda contest for which the reward is a unique (!!!) item and a continuation of the Announcer comic which follows Saxton Hale. Speaking of Saxton, who is that in the middle of the crafting page?

Edit: As Melon pointed out, there is this “secret” mail-in order form for some commemorative plates (which includes a fake P.O. box, don’t bother mailing anything). Also, from the chalkboard in the most recent WAR newspaper:

So now demomen and soldiers killing eachother is a tracked activity. The side that gets the most kills on the other wins an extra unlock. Thus, both classes will get the three usual update items plus an extra to the side that wins.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll be staying away from TF2 at the moment.
Update: The kills have been tallied up:

Wake me up when they reveal the unlocks.

This is something rather odd. While the recent TF2 patch fixed some trivial bugs, the more important change was the addition of several voice files for the announcer. The keyword here is ‘friendship’, as it’s pretty much mentioned or referred to in every new file. This hints to a new game mode, but how it will play out is anyone’s guess.
Update: Apparently it’s not a new game mode at all.
“We’ve got something coming, but it’s not a new game mode,” Valve’s Robin Walker says. “The key to understanding the new sound files is to figure out who’s hearing them in-game, and who isn’t.”
