    We all saw this coming, but some people just take it to crazy levels. Basically the guy spent around 3500$ on keys in one month. Just hold your thoughts there for a moment, think of 3500$, and think of what you could do with them. Spending it on a game is probably not one of the first things on your list. I’ll just be making my silly videos over here.

    Oh, and the telltale poker game comes out next Monday, on the 22nd.

    Edit: And an engine/TF2 update just went live. Check the comments, etc.

    This coming Tuesday November 9th, 2010 the TF2 item system will be down for maintenance starting at 1pm PST and ending at approximately 2:30PST. We are significantly increasing the amount of database horsepower behind TF2 to accommodate all the recent additions to the system. During this maintenance the following TF2 features will be unavailable…

    That’s around 9pm for us Euro folk. Nobody will be able to use the new weapons, or hats, and so on.

    Also, was thinking – I just realized how many people brought that telltale poker game while probably never having played poker themselves in the first place.

    So that new update is out and everyone’s probably farming paper bags. If you haven’t already heard, you can easily get the horseman achievements by starting up your local server and forcing the boss to spawn. The console command would be: sv_cheats 1;  hurtme -9999999;  bot; tf_halloween_force_boss_spawn; sv_cheats 0

    You can only get one single unusual metal though. And you can only use it to craft the new limited event items.

    As for gameplay changes they added in a new weapon, the sticky jumper, which functions like a rocket jumper for the demoman. The RJ also got nerfed, which is great, because it used to be way overpowered with…all that damage it did.

    So how about those patch notes. Nothing about game balance, but they did put in some new anti-scam advice in trade chat. Once again, I don’t think I like where this game is heading.

    The L4D2 patch notes are fun too:

    Oh yes, and Valve paid out about a total of 200 grand to the first ever five community contributors. You probably already know about this, it’s all over gaming news sites from what I can see. Well, there will be fun in store for the people in charge of sorting through all the new contribute entries. It’s like a gold rush right now I’d imagine.

    EDIT: To put this all into perspective, the guys who got their custom maps put into TF2 got paid in the few thousands range. They had to create dozens of custom models, overlays, and of course the hardest part of all, the map itself.

    Guy gets steam account disabled over hats. You know Valve meant business when they broke about a dozen plugins after the equipment plugin let people wear any hat in the game on the server.

    Really what I’m trying to get to here isn’t the fact that they overstepped their bounds in terms of dealing out punishment, it’s that Valve suddenly decided to be everyone’s personal babysitter over some goddamn cosmetic virtual items. And I’m not talking only about this incident, they’ve been rushing to defend all sorts of people who done went did some dumb things with them internet model thingamabobs.

    Jazzman’s still making videos. Check it out, there always seems to be something new and interesting on his channel.

    There’s a silly bug going around where you can break engie animations by taunting and picking up one of your buildings in a split second. The engie then starts firing his weapon from his shoulder, pointing it in some painful looking direction. Oh, and you can build loads of sentries again.

    Also, I wonder who was in charge of managing The Sacrifice? The ending really felt duct taped on at the last minute. I mean, this guy got everything looking right, and he isn’t even getting paid.

    Recently TF2 players have figured out the crafting recipes that were secretly put in for the polycount hats. Woah there, don’t get excited, you need four units of refined metal for it.

    But hey, that’s okay, right? You didn’t need the hats anyway because it’s not like the set bonuses make a big difference anyway.

    I’m thinking most of you readers already have L4D2, but just in case, Valve’s running an offer where both L4D games are 66% off. Anyone who orders or already has L4D2 will get a skillet and an Ellis hat in TF2 the following days.

    Speaking of which, a pretty bad patch came around. I’ll spare you the bother of reading the wall of text, and tell you that the Sydney Sleeper ain’t so much of a railgun anymore. It won’t randomly crit anymore, and it won’t pierce through enemies. The sandvich is re-nerfed after it used to instantly recharge again, and there’s a lot of other small bug fixes/cosmetic changes. Funnily enough the Shortstop remains untouched in terms of balance.

    Now correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t everyone more interested in solving the set bonus situation and actually getting decent crafting recipes for the new Polycount items? They had to go make the new sniper weapon un-fun too. Heaven forbid enemies actually overlap on your screen so you can hit both of them, that just happens way too often and it totally breaks the game.

    So The Sacrifice is coming out October 5th. New achievements, new mutations, and exploding barrels!

    Related to TF2 now, the polycount hats that you need for set bonuses are soon going to be craftable, Robin says. They’re going to be available through a special recipe – ‘something like two refined metal and a class token’. Oh, and the taunt glitch that got bombed out, apparently that wasn’t intended. They’re looking into things trying to re-implement the bug. Just another day at Valve.
