New official TF2 blog post up. Main point? It’s about a hat describing contest. Yeah, I’m not touching this subject. There’s also the soldier receiving a couple of cosmetic items for those who preordered Worms Reloaded. But if you already did that, you should be playing it right about now.

Now time for a small rant. Actually, hit the jump, I don’t think this is related and I shouldn’t throw walls of texts at you, but anyone that has a paypal account should give it a read. Continue reading »

Alright what’ve we got. The Sacrifice, the new DLC campaign for L4D and L4D2. In addition to the campaign where one player will have to take one for the team, Valve will also retrofit No Mercy to work with L4D2, and they’ll release a nice online comic too. This comes out in October.

I don’t recall if Portal 2 Co-op was announced in the past, but Valve’s release a nice little trailer for it on youtube.

This isn’t news, but some guy hacked up a trombone and fitted it with some incendiary equipment. Okay, the flamethrower trombone is cool but am I the only one that feels nervous when he turns it on in his room near all those easily combustible materials?

Oh, and a random item generator. It churns out some really underpowered stuff, we know.

EDIT: Oh, you silly racing fans. The heavy ain’t a truck.

Remember the contribute site, more specifically the part where you could submit avatars? Well, Valve put up a new page on their site where the submitted avatars are randomly displayed. However, expect to see some pretty unrelated, bad, poorly made and weird avatars on those pages. I don’t think Valve did any quality control on any of these. There’s even this thing which I seem to recognize from somewhere.

Alright, first a bit of news. Here’s another Robin Walker interview. It’s about gameplay, balance, stuff like that. Robin reveals he’d like to do something like the TF2 beta you’ve heard about here and there with all the prototype weapons and stuff, but on a wider scale. That and they’re thinking of nerfing Natascha.

Now, have this vid I had a ton of fun collaborating on.

Huge source engine update out, and a lot of TF2 changes up along with it. Hold your horses, there’s barely any gameplay changes. A lot of map changes though, the most noticeable of them being the famous Thundermountain spawn vulnerability being fixed and Hightower’s ramp now easier to push.

However there also was an some update sometime in the past that increased the maximum resolution for sprays from 256×256 to 512×512. I don’t recall it ever being jotted down in any patch note. The maximum permitted size as also been increased, allowing for more frames in an animated spray. It’s weird that Valve actually cares about sprays, it’s something you almost never see in any other game and it’s not exactly a feature you’d use to get copies sold, but I sure as hell am glad there’s someone on the dev team that cares about them!

The TF2 part of  the Steam forum now has a Trading board. Come on, Gabe, stop teasing and give us that polycount update already.

Video of the now. Enjoy 10 minutes of some guy going crazy on the mic.

EDIT: Actually, have another one. Can’t see it because of some ass backwards music group? Have a mirror.

I’m back, here’s a few things I’ve noted in the past week.

Valve is most likely making a DotA clone. Because the other two clones aren’t enough.

Then just as I back, Robin gets interviewed by PCgamer, and he reveals the polycount update will be coming out with item trading and a new game mode. Next month. Blast.

I guess we’ll just have to stare at some videos while we wait.

Apparently Valve loves Minecraft. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s a sandbox type game where you mine things so you can build things. Everything’s represented with blocks. Okay, I kind of stuck at explaining things properly so have a video. Last time I checked the game was a free alpha, but you could ‘preorder’ the game and get access to the more interesting infdev mode. At around 13 bucks it’s not so bad, the game gets updated frequently and there’s always new things to try.

Also, slow news days ahead, I’m going to the beach till August 12. I will have some net access but I don’t know how much time I’ll have.

So, new TF2 blog update, they’re doing a thing with TF2maps.net. Valve is giving one lucky mapper the chance of having their work in an official TF2 map. What’s this exactly mean? A mapper at Valve probably isn’t feeling like finishing a map, so now they’re getting the community to do it. The pay for this? Nothing, really, they just get mentioned somewhere.

Yes, for the rest of us this does mean more free stuff, but it does seem kind of funny that Valve can just get the community to do any kind of content with the promise of some TF2-related reward. Sure you get your name up there somewhere but work like this usually gets paid in real money.

Well the polycount winners have been announced, but as usual the page is getting hammered so hard even getting any response from the server is difficult. Valve sort of saw this coming, so they linked to the individual threads of the winners. That are on the same dying server.

That’s okay though, you can see the winners on the steam forums in threads like these.

Nice update and all, but I just want to see the weapons stats now.

    Also this little quip here

Out of the 70 or so entries that Valve received, Robin tells me that nearly half of the entries are of a high enough quality to be shipped in future updates without much work needed on Valve side.

Made me laugh. Why bother working on content when you’ve got a community just itching to do it for free?
