Earl Alexander, the voice of Louis from that game we sometimes like to play, has been interviewed recently on kill9tv. There’s a lot of interesting points in this video, such as how he managed to land the VA spot for Louis, his reactions to the community remixing his voice, and much more. It’s in four parts, so make sure you view each one by following the annotation links.

Well apparently, looking through files in the L4D2 Demo to find references to both a “Miracle Pack” and “Apocalyptic Pack” to be downloaded from Xbox LIVE’s marketplace system. It looks like DLC may not be far down the road after release, which will be good, considering how frequent the previous Left4Dead was updated.

Owners of the PC version will have nothing to worry about, as Valve has stated time and time again, any DLC pricing is strictly done by Microsoft.

“On the consoles, they want us to charge money for [DLC], because that’s in their model, and our model is very much more to grow the community by giving out free updates,” said Valve president Gabe Newell last year. “That’s harder for us.”

There is also mention of the original Left 4 Dead maps, as well as mugshots of the original four survivors for character selection. Left over files from the first, or a possible clue to L4D2 supporting the original maps and characters, under the new engine?

Thanks to FPSBanana and G4 for bringing the story to my attention.

The original story can be found here, posted by Cordl3ssPen on the Rage3D forums.

For those of you who don’t check the Left 4 Dead blog too often, and none would blame you, Erik Johnson posted on the 13th explaining that Gabe Newell and him had returned from their trip over in Australia. The visitation, for those who don’t keep up to date with the Valve news, was to test out Joe W-A’s Left 4 Dead campaign, after a few joke e-mails between the parties resulted in Joe W-A’s community forking over $3000 in under 48 hours.

The blog post explained that Valve was unable to actually make the contributors pay for their ticket, and instead donated the $3000 to Child’s Play, a video game based charity organization. However, they still counted the contributors donations in a pretty long image, showing the contributor’s name, amount and the distance that amount got them. The chart can be found by clicking the image below:

Pictures from the trip, as well as videos and information can be found on the Fly Gabe Newell blog set up by Joe W-A.

The new L4D campaign/versus/survival map has been released along with a few tweaks to gameplay. The most visible change in gameplay is that in versus, all items will be identical for both teams runthroughs. This adds a considerable advantage to the team that will play the infected the first round. Ten new achievements have also been added.

The map consists of two larger stages instead of the five level system present in other campaigns. Oddly enough these two maps have a crapload of pistols, gascans, and propane tanks scattered around. Don’t be surprised when you shoot through a zombie only to hit an item, triggering a fiery chain reaction in the vicinity.

The nice thing is that the survivors have several new voice files that are used in the new campaign. Never can get enough of the survivor chatter. (EDIT: Bill actually didn’t get any new voice lines. Quite a terrible and discriminatory oversight on valve’s part in my opinion.) That and all those humorous writings on the walls.

But enough about that, have some footage of the somewhat new L4D2 infected, the Jockey.

Well, yeah. L4D2. I kinda forgot about it, but I feel obligated to at least write about important developments concerning it. Like, for example, the announcement of a new campaign set on an old and creepy (duh) fairgrounds.

It’s all I got; I’m kinda thinking about something else right now.

Edit: So I started to actually watch some of the videos I linked to and to my surprise there is some intriguing discussion with Gabe Newell about the TF2 comic and other uses of the TF2 IP, including saying he could “absolutely” imaging a day when there would be a TF2 movie or TV show.

So, I’m not sure how, but I completely forgot to post some rather intriguing new Left 4 Dead info, specifically soon-to-be-released free DLC.

The new stuff comes in the form of a new campaign that ties together the end of No Mercy to the beginning of Death Toll. It will come with both campaign and versus mode included, and is supposed to be short to aviod hour-long matches (I heard it’s supposed to play through in half an hour).

So, there it is. Should be coming soon. Real DLC. No need to say Valve isn’t trying.

Also, here’s a preview from Destructiod. And the campaign poster, after the break.

Valve posted a new official blog entry earlier, detailing how spawn waves will work in L4D’s new survival mode. Another interesting tidbit of info is the one saying the new update will be out next week. Then again this is valve time we’re talking about.

Tank spawn time...zero seconds? Oh dear.

You probably want to play L4D right now that the balance patch is online, so here’s quite a useful video. Youtube user ForcefulCJS details ways to deal with the witch in a myriad of situations using whatever equipment you have at your disposal. No matter how much you’ve been playing, there’s a good chance you’ll find out something you didn’t know in this video.

And in unrelated news, Valve is finally doing something about all those servers who use false player counts! Continue reading »

Surprise update for L4D yesterday, balancing out multiple things. The tank was changed so his humongous arms actually hit multiple survivors the right way. He also won’t crap out if he’s in a vent getting shot, will spawn in slightly different places for different teams, and tank parking is gone.

The firehunter tactic where you use a hunter that unsurprisingly is on fire to deal a lot more damage has been nerfed. The smoker tongue is a lot more reliable and the boomer will now properly slime people under him when he explodes. There’s a ton more minor improvements so hit the jump for full patch notes.
