There is a fundamental part of TF2 that we all expierence every time we boot up the game, for the entire time we play, and something that sticks with us long after we finish for the day. It is something I think we all appreciate– an element that helps make and keep the game entertaining even when we are losing. It has remained unchanged (mostly) since day one. And I think it is in need of an update. Continue reading »

An EP2 mod that centers around puzzles and killing enemies in unorthodox ways.
I can’t explain too much, but take it from me – if you like puzzles, you’ll love this mod. Actually, you’ll love it anyway. It’s freakin’ awesome.
Oh and that part where you THINK you have to use a barrel shield? You have to actually stack the light looking things near you on the container you just crossed. That’s pretty much one of the few puzzles that just doesn’t make sense.

Slow days. Communityfortress.com has an interview with Robin right here. Of interest again is a tidbit of info on their new demo system. Read on.

Neotokyo has proven itself, at least to me, to be a game worth playing.
The game is set in Tokyo of the near-future, in which a covert war is being waged between the National Security Force, a public force under control of the Prime Minister, and JINRAI, a powerful branch of the Japanese military (which had previously and unsuccessfully attempted a coup). NSF has sworn to protect the Japanese constitution, which does not allow military action outisde Japan. JINRAI sees such actions as the solution to Japan’s geo-political problems.
The gameplay consists of single-life rounds, and after you die you are forced to watch in spectate mode for the rest of the round. This is similar to many popular multiplayer games: Counter-Strike, Call of Duty 4’s Search and Destroy mode, and TF2’s own Arena mode all share similar round styles.
Also like Tf2, NT allows players to pick from three classes- the Scout/Spy-like “recon,” the well-rounded “assault,” and the slow but powerful “support.” Each has it’s own myriad of abilities…

TFportal managed to obtain an interview with Robin Walker a few days ago, and there’s quite a few interesting bits in it. Now the questions were asked before the spy update, but the answers were only received much later, rendering a couple of questions outdated.
The main bit which caught my eye was a section about a new demo format valve is working on.
Robin Walker: It’s getting close to being releasable in a beta form. The idea is that after you die or finish a round, and it was a round you were particularly happy with (maybe you scored an awesome kill, or saved the entire team with an ubercharge), you can ask the server to send you a demo of it. The server then sends you a demo that it recorded, which has the complete game state instead of just what your client saw, and it’s in a format that’s robust and won’t break as easily when we update the game. In addition, the format has a some side benefits, like supporting full backwards & forwards time scrubbing.
Awesome. Hopefully it will include something that makes smoothing less of a pain in the ass.

Now I really wouldn’t give a damn how similar this ‘H.A.V.E. online‘ looks to Team Fortress 2 was a free game or a fan project, but the problem is that you know how Korean games are with their online shops and micropayments.
Take Team Fortress 2, add some rats maps, change one team’s models into anime figurines, the other into robot looking things, then sell it as a gam- whoops, controversy alert. I mean hell, their demoman even has one eye! Come on, at least try a bit, SK iMedia.
But at least all those people that wanted female models for TF2 now have a suitable game to play.
