And the third news item of the day is Valve cracking down on players who have used third party tools to unlock achievements.

If you love TF2, you most likely have heard of Vince Offer, and the infomercials selling products such as the ShamWow and the SlapChop. You’ve probably heard about the cult of Scientology, that pretty much feeds on people’s money and gets away with all sorts of nasty stuff. Continue reading »

After you get over the dissapointment of no ‘meet the’ video, or lament over the fact that Valve didn’t release a new gameplay mode with the update, you’ll find that more that meets the eye has changed.
As we’ve come to expect from the last few updates, there’s the first thing you see when you join a server:
Not only are there tons of scouts jumping around, even the other classes are affected Continue reading »
It appears that the Russian site HL-Inside somehow managed to get a hold of the officially unreleased achievement descriptions. While the page is in Russian, you can use google translate to get an idea of what each achievement is all about. Or view an alternate translation on the forums here.
Edit: Then again, Valve decided to go ahead and post the official achievement descriptions a several hours after the leak. Looking over them, it seems that the last scout unlock will be called the “Force-A-Nature”
There is also talk about the scout unlock being a breech-loaded shotgun with kickback. The kickback sounds strong enough to allow you to triple-jump.
So! The third Scout update has been unveiled. The title of the page: “Energy Drink & Achievements.”
EDIT: It was pointed out to me somwhere else that the linked picture shows the scout holding what looks like his NEW scattergun (there is no more round holder in it). Although that doesn’t really say anything about what it will do, it is fun to note.
EDIT (2): I also just realized that the same picture depicts the scout running infront of what is definitely one of the new VALVE maps- the blurred picture in the background shows both a RED and a BLU cart- now I can say for sure that the new map type is a double-payload map.
The first part of the update reveals the new ‘BONK’ Energy Drink. By all appearances, BONK is a consumable item (like the Sandvich) which speeds up the scout for the duration of its effect, but afterwhich causes “feelings of lethargy that can last several seconds.” EVD pointed out that it may also allow someone to dodge bullets (but exactly how isn’t stated).
The second part is the icons and names of all Scout Achievements (without the details).
The VALVE server this is all hosted on appears to be rather slow, so here’s a complete copy of the names of the Achievements:
In the second revelation for the upcoming Scout Update, VALVE has showcased the two community maps it is adding (with small changes).
The two maps this time are arena_watchtower:
While the last TF2 patch that just went online was somewhat controversial, breaking a ton of user made scripts while killing off one of our favourite unofficial classes, Valve has begun unveiling the scout unlocks that will go live in the next few days. Today, we are presented with the bat unlock, the Sandman:
You Scouts are gonna love this highly collectible bat that smacks baseballs at the other team, stunning the living crap outta anybody dumb, slow, drunk, mute or Australian enough to get in the way. The farther the ball flies before ricocheting offa some chucklehead’s skull, the longer he’s gonna be stunned. And guys who think they’re tough because they’re invulnerable? It works on them too. Now the bad news: You can’t double jump when you’re carrying this little beauty. On the other hand, double jumping never put anybody in a coma.
Oddly enough, I remember Valve being against degenerative gameplay, and being batted repeatedly by a fast scrawny guy is annoying enough even when you can move, but right now you can’t really tell how this is all going to play out.
Keep checking the scout update page of the TF2 blog over the next few days to find out what else Valve has in store for us.
TF2 got updated, and as you might have expected, it’s not the scout update we’ve all been waiting for.
Team Fortress 2
- Sticky bombs now get a reduced close range damage ramp up (like Rocket Launcher & Syringe Gun)
- Ultimately reduces damage done by sticky bombs to enemies <512 units from the Demoman

But seriously, “this spring?” In VALVE time that means “within the next year, maybe.”
EDIT: Annnnnnd… already it looks like its gonna be paid-for-content! Which just about rules out me ever getting it.
Side note: In other news, there’s a Tf2 blog post explaining the new crit system, for the three people who haven’t seen it yet.
If I’m right, most of the people reading this blog are hardcore elites, but in the off chance you’re a newbie:
Sniping: Not screwing up
I can’t consider myself one of those private-server-only sniping gods, but I have a feeling I can pass some info down to some of our newer readers. The first thing you must remember when playing sniper is that your connection plays a rather important part of your success. A person with a ping of 25 will obviously have an easier time sniping than a person clocking in around 100.
