Games, Other. Posted by Jetstar @ 10:05 am

I have a fairly large ego here and I have a bone to pick with you snipers. Yeah, we’ve discussed 2Fort’s Sniper minigame several times. Enough of that crap, I don’t think you’re aware that it happens on every map in existence.

The sniper is one of the most powerful classes, 100% critical hit once charged? I’m there. That’s why my main class is Sniper, because I know a secret. I know that a sniper can kill any class in the game in one shot. You knew that already, right guys? I don’t think you did. Otherwise I wouldn’t hear Mr. E-Cop telling me to switch classes. You know what? Screw you, a sniper could kick you in the teeth.

You’ve played sniper, don’t lie, and you hated it. The thought of standing back behind cover and doing nothing really scared you, or you missed a lot. It’s tempting, you can aim for the head or the body, either one might score you some points (1 for a bodyshot, 2 for a headshot). But really, in today’s instant respawn servers, will those two points really be worth it? No, they won’t.

The classic Heavy-Medic combo, Siamese twins, the big guy with gun is pretty easy to scope and kill. But once again, is it worth it? Maybe, maybe not. There are tons of factors/variables that would tell you the importance of the kill, like, “If I kill the Heavy, could I kill the Medic right after? Or should I get the Medic first?” The answer is pretty clear (shoot the medic), because most likely the Heavy is under more fire than the Medic and he’d be taken down pretty quick without someone feeding him health.

So, back to the minigame I was discussing earlier (and the reason I’m writing this): I’ve noticed a disgusting habit forming among Snipers. While spectating I spotted a sniper give up two kills just to score one on another Sniper. This 2-1 ratio got me pretty mad, until I noticed that the guy was ranked highest in the server. Surely this man didn’t gain ALL these points killing other Snipers? Two points for a headshot is tempting, but getting two on an active Engineer/Medic should give you some bonus points. Which leads me to say, Snipers shouldn’t shoot Snipers.

“Okay, NOW you’ve gone too far.” Sure, maybe I have. Maybe you could prove me wrong. Go into a server and try to play Sniper without shooting another Sniper. One of two things could happen:

1)The other team won’t have any Snipers, making your job easier. Spies are the only issue (and your bad aim).
2)The other team will have Sniper(s). You’re their first priority and you’ll die again and again, unless he’s read this article in which case he won’t shoot you.

I know, this advice will fall on deaf ears. But seriously, for such a powerful class, why the bad rap? Snipers wars? Revenge? Minigames?

Well, anyway, I hope this answered some questions. This is my first article so I’m just getting my barrings. I know it seems a little disjointed but after a little guidance from my superiors I’m sure I’ll shape up. See you in the servers, guys.

I say if your the same class on either team, consider it a friendly How-do-you-do to a coworker and go along your business, like this one guy did playing spy with an enemy spy. You don’t stab me, I don’t stab you.

But that’s a load of crap. I’ll stick to snipers waving from across sniper decks to one another, that’s good enough. MAYBE spies enjoying a nice smoke before going off and fucking with the enemy team some more. Other then that, it get’s too stupid.

Unless your both pyro’s. Why waste fire on something unburnable? No joy in it unless your hearing some scout running for a medkit whilest screaming his luungs out.

  • ProjectZeroX Says:

lol I tried being a sniper on a instant server too.

    I couldn’t live D:

    soo many snipers.

Even on Critical Servers to Daed.

  • HyperAndroid Says:

A Sniper’s fully charged bullet (which takes 4 seconds to fully charge) does 99-201 damage. That means you can instakill anything by just pointing your gun at it except the Heavy, who you’ll just shoot in the head.

I just LOVE getting instakilled from a bodyshot from a Sniper who’s 500 feet away and camping in his own spawn.

  • The Truth Says:

You are insanely right. The minigame is crap. Although you should think about this: What if you could get 2 kills, but the sniper noticed you? Would you risk your own life to get that kill (with a possibility that you get killed first)and risk your life or just kill the sniper and live to tell the tale(with a chance of getting those kills :) ). But Im pretty sure your talking about if he doesn’t notice you (thank god) and instead focuses on your KEY members. Protect and be Protected man.

  • DaveRhodes Says:

Interesting dichotomy on sniper-heavy maps like OrangeX… If the sniper’s on your team, he sucks. If the sniper’s on the other team, he hacks. There is no middle ground. It’s a perception thing.

Also, I hate playing sniper. I’m just really terrible at getting the little dot over the guy and getting a shot off.
I don’t seem to have that problem when I’m playing a pyro though… I’ve found I can pretty consistently hit snipers from pretty darn far away with the flare gun.
Which is my favorite thing to do to a sniper.
    They totally deserve it.

  • El Jay Says:

I hate Flare-gun pyro’s more then anyone else, oh god. Especially Orange x3, whenever I play that, there’s some AMAZING pyro backed by three or four snipers on the other team while I’m a shotty-pyro backed by four shit-tier snipers. When I, myself, could out-sniper almost everyone on my team. Damn pub’s.

Just glad I’m good at flaming out SG’s of every level, that’s one of my few redeeming pyro skills. Hard to do to a level 3, but I do it, and I guess that’s why a lot of the people on my team in pub’s are always telling me to go roasting after they see me pull shit like that, annoyingly, when no medics will help out.

There’s some other things on the annoyance list too. Medics who stick to heavies every second they live, medics who only needlegun, and E-button whoring Heavies. I can always rely on the idiots on my team to spam E all at once when I decide it’s high-time we got a medic on the team who actually helps more then one person.

  • Gentleman Says:

Meh, the Pyro’s more cheap. The cheapest class in the game in my opinion.

Okay so his unlockable weapons just about critical hit anyone no matter what, set them on fire in the back and it crits them, didn’t get them enough? Don’t worry, they’re still on fire so just use the axtinguisher on them.

And boy, the flare gun, what ever happened to the Pyro being short ranged?

  • The Truth Says:

Flare Gun? I have it for the XBOX 360. Can I get these guns? And if so How?

  • El Jay Says:

I only use the backburner. I’m not fast enough to even think of switching from burning someone to beating them with an axetinguisher. And for the sake of fairness, I only shotgun, at that. Flare’s only come out when I’m 2forting it up and there’s a ton of snipers or an engie needing burnt that’s camping our base behind a sentry.

Because in all honesty, short range is my favorite range. It’s why I constantly bust out my wrench or my axe and bum rush the other team. And I tend to make it from my base up to their sniper deck half the time, as long as a sentry isn’t up. Criiiiit wreeeench!

  • KhakiHat Says:

I really would like get back to playing snipe again, doing some REAL back up. Thats why i mad it my mission to back stab snipes on 2Fort. Sadly, they rarely spy check and expect others to cover them (this coming from a green spy).

  • Ces Says:

And this is why I rarely get on TF2 anymore. Most servers run 24/7 2fort Instant Respawns.
Nobody plays for objectives or to get better anymore. zzz

  • Patchouli Knowledge Says:

This is why I don’t play on 2fort servers, and if I am playing on the map, I very rarely stick to the battlements. I tend to hang around infront of the bridge, killing anything that falls into view. Or if my team is winning, I’ll go combatsnipe in the enemy base. Really though, snipers that hang back are hardly useful unless they can hit 99% of their shots. And if they can do that, there’s no reason for them to be just behind the front lines, killing the full range of enemies.

SAY YES TO TANK SNIPING! IT’S THE WAY TO GO!

  • El Jay Says:

Yeah. I’ve changed my mind. I love my Flare’s. On 2Fort, I hit things with flares more often then I do when I snipe. Makes me feel pathetic, yet… Awesome. Scouts, snipers, Flying soldiers… I’m never going snoipah again, just me, my flares and my backburner. And MAYBE a medic. I FEEL LIKE GOD.

Until I end up playing a round where someone like Daed wipes the floor with my face. BUT ANYWAYS. Tank sniping IS the way to go. More often then not lately, I’ll join a 2fort server, go sniper, and hang around the sewers and the front of the base. Defense and offense I guess, I can never decide what to do when I play a class.

  • Xriloku Says:

Man, snipers from the other team aren’t too bad, usually because of their terrible aim. The thing that really pisses me off is when I have the laser ON SOMEONE’S HEAD, and I get sniped right before I click. GAHHJJKADSJFKLJ! As for the pyro, I use the pre-update weapons. The shotty IMO will always be better than the flare, and I will never feel any happier playing TF2 then shoving a soldier’s crit rocket right back up his spamming ass. I hate soldiers.

  • Alias Says:

God, I hate snipers. Even more than spies. They are on my #1 priority list. If I do see one, I do everything within my power to get rid of them. Even if that means emptying all my rounds and dodging those rockets from a soldier that’s trying to stop me. :l

  • Fimbul Says:

I hate snipers. Especially those who manage to get on top of the ranking just by camping at the same spot all the fucking time. It’s no big deal, they don’t deserve it. I could make my way to the top within minutes as sniper, but what about it? Most of the time, snipers are not helping their team. They just care about their fucking score. And their minigames with other snipers.

I use to play 2fort a lot because it’s so much fun to punish those spawncamping fags. It’s so easy, they are completely unaware about what’s going on around them. Go Pyro, manage to get up there and Axe the fuck out of them. Best use Axtinguisher, because every hit is satisfying. I love it. Tip LM, Q, CRITAXE! NEXT! LM, Q, CRIT!
It’s so awesome when you get the opportunity to critaxe about three snipers within seconds. Sometimes you can even engage one of them to ragequit. Or to switch class.
Anyways, your team doesn’t have to bother about getting critshot anymore.
I don’t see why I shouldn’t enjoy my Axtinguisher. It’s a fast and effective Way to get specific kills. Oh how I enjoy Axtinguishing my Nemesis-Ingeneer after I burnt his shit in ruins :>

    see you in flames

  • Dr. Time-Cop Says:

I really hate 3fort instant spawn maps. Around the 4th sniper is when I decide it’s time to do something to annoy them. What I do is make a teleporter on your team’s battlements where snipers usually move to while in scope. Usually the luck sniper steps on the teleporter. Extra points if you have a nasty spray and have the teleporter facing a wall.

As for the pyro, I’m starting to like the Backburner, because unlike many others that use it I try to ambush people. I am going to try the flare gun, however. I also love the axtinguisher.

  • Rock-Dash Says:

I see a kill, I take it. I see a sniper, I duck for cover, because dying for an easy kill isn’t worth it if the other guy’s going to shoot you in the ass. And kill you. Besides, I go sniper, I make sure NOT to snipe from the same spot to avoid detection by other snipers. It’s easier to simply hide and go seek while picking off any threats you see. Better melee the bastid I say.

  • FlameWolf Says:

man, it is unbelievably SATISFYING to stab the same battlement-camping sniper again… and again… and again…

i once dominated every sniper on there team.

until an engy built a sentry near them and i didnt see it (my sound failed at the time)

    i love spy

  • Red-Eye Says:

    we all do FlameWolf :D
