Well, it’s here, and it’s awesome.
Got mirrors up at Vimeo (Nevermind, they sapped it.) and WeGame.
Almost forgot to say: The song is Pendulum – Propane Nightmares.
I’ve put up a request for donations in the video for one reason – hosting fees come right out of my pocket, and right now I’m in a bit of a slump. The google ads don’t seem to be working, and I can’t tell people to click on them, so this will have to do. Remember, every donation goes towards maintaining this site.
Check this space later, I’ll upload a bunch of alternate angle shots of the things you’ve seen in the vid.

so great! I only wish there was a pyro fire show, like at 4:10 but in a sprial or something. But seriously, those massive airblasts were sick!
November 24th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
That was unbelievable. I especially like the clumps of spies near the end.
November 24th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Dude that was crazy. Gratz on the Ubercharged front page too

P.S. And I thoguht I was the only one who liked Pendulum!
November 24th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
That was fantastic. Great job!
November 24th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Not to be “that guy” but what’s the song in the vid?
Great job, though – really good job w/ the script, and the video editing is really tight.

You, me, and the rest of the planet.
Who *doesn’t* like Pendulum?

@Daedalus: How did you get the bots to mimic with a delay? Whenever I use bot_mimic, they naturally mimic my actions instantly. Of course, that’s kind of sucky for making cool videos
November 25th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
*stands and applauds* That was awesome.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Hey! Give credit where credit is due, 0:24-0:40 isn’t original material and is ripped straight from Ignis Solus, a Lit Fuse Film.
That cube of crab walking spies is the best though.
November 26th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Chad, Ignus Solus was set in 2Fort (as opposed to Well), and all your stated section shows is a Pyro running somewhere. :/
I’m not going to embellish because I’m really not sure if you’re joking or not. Please tell me you are.

Very well put together- I can’t come up with any real video editing criticisms, just small suggestions like:
-The heavy taunt domino really ought to have begun at the same time as the beats you were syncing their deaths to.
-The 3:27-3:37 sequence’s dreamlike tone really seems like it could have used crossfading transfers between the clips.
-The flickering ubercharge at 4:00 could have been synced to the escalating drum beats.
-I have alot of thoughts on how the whole pyro-rocket matchups could have gone, which boil down to personal taste. The initial setup could be clearer, perhaps by including the typed directions- it’s still the low-key beginning, so I don’t think it would have broken the flow. I would have liked the intro to be only shots of bots standing idly or being spawned, not counting the start of the taunt in the first shot, and then really kick the video off with a camera that followed the red pyro’s gaze so that we saw the rocket firing squad at the same time he did. The reflection of the rockets could have been given emphasis as a surprise twist, an escalating repeating theme that later continues with the rocket duel.
Of course, the soul of this video isn’t the editing but the clever uses of the A.I. Some other ruminations:
-In terms of extended sequences, 4:03 to 4:47 takes the cake for me. Would you be up for releasing all the source footage you took from that camera angle? Because it strikes me as pure gold for any FMV editor wanting to stretch their action sync muscles, myself included.
-The Medic firing squad makes me realize that you now have all the tools to do a fairly epic 300 parody trailer. Hell, I could lend a hand.
-Could we see this tech used in Left 4 Dead? Because there’s some real potential there, especially if you could do it with regular infected using their various animations. It seems infeasible from what I’ve gathered about how you did this, but I gotta ask.
At any rate, great job. I have no idea if you even remember me (Hidden:Source forum member, we chatted this summer about video editing), but it’s great to see you getting back in the swing of things.

The cube of spies on Badlands reminded me of the wind powered sculptures that Theo Jansen sets loose on the dutch beaches to terrorize picnickers.

@Novi
I just love those TED clips, there’s a lot of interesting things in them.
@Dag
The 3:27 part wasn’t crossfaded since I wanted to get in as much of the animation per class as I could during a ‘beat’. The part before it was stuffed in as a filler. =P
Also, I deleted all of the source footage, since I really needed the space, but I still have the scripts which were used to do the movie.

I’m starting to get the idea of this (sv_cheats 1;bot_command.. as opposed to bot_mimic), but how do I add a delay? I know Source has a wait command, I just don’t know it.
